The backdrop to your animal encounters takes in an array of incredible landscapes, from Mount Kilimanjaro to the Rift Valley escarpments and the rolling savannahs of the Maasai Mara.

 

Day 1: Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve

Your driver/guide will meet you at your Nairobi hotel for a trip briefing before making the drive to Samburu National Reserve, Samburu Game Lodge, in time for lunch.  That afternoon you’ll experience your first safari in this beautiful and serene reserve that is bisected by the Ewaso Ng’iro River, providing much needed water that attracts a variety of wildlife.  You might see big cats, elephant, Oryx, hippo, Zebra and Giraffe.  Samburu has over 350 bird species, including bee-eaters, eagles and secretary birds. Over night in Samburu Game Lodge or any other similar lodge.{Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner}

Day 2: On safari in Samburu National Reserve

Today you’ll be treated to a full day experiencing all that dreamy Samburu has to offer.  The reserve has several claims to fame, including being one of two places where George and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the lioness; famously featured in the book and movie Born Free.  It also served as the location for BBC’s acclaimed documentary series Secret Life of Elephants. other unique animals found on this park includes the Gerenuk antelope, referred to as the Giraffe antelope ,and the Gravy Zebra, these are  breeds endemic to the North of the Equator.  This evening there is an optional activity of visiting the Samburu people in their own village, these are the cousins of the Maasai tribe of Southern rift valley, at a cost of 20$pp, where just like their Maasai brothers, they will show case their rich traditional culture. {Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner}

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve to  Lake Nakuru National Park

Shortly after breakfast you’ll depart for Nakuru National Park, a Rift Valley soda lake made famous for its huge population of pink flamingos that line the shores of Lake Nakuru in their thousands, sometimes millions.  That afternoon you’ll have your best chance of seeing both black and white rhino during your game drive.   Both species are protected by a sanctuary so the park enjoys high concentrations of these rare animals. Tree climbing Lions, Leopard, endangered Rothschilds Giraffes and waterbucks are also abundant.  Overnight in Sarova Lion Hill Lodge or any other similar lodge {Beakfast, Lunch, Dinner}

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park to Maasai Mara National Reserve

An early breakfast ensures you’ll get to the internationally acclaimed Maasai Mara in time for lunch; a beautiful drive along the way will take you through the striking western walls of the Great Rift Valley.  Your first Mara experience will take place with an afternoon game drive through this special place.   World-renowned for being home to the seasonal Great Migration when the plains are filled with migrating wildebeest and zebra; there are also thousands resident wildlife year round, including the ‘big five’ animals of buffalo, rhino, lion, leopard and elephant. Overnight in Mara Sopa Lodge or similar .{Breakfast, lunch, Dinner}

Day 5: On safari in Masai Mara National Reserve

A full day of game viewing awaits in the stunning Maasai Mara grasslands, providing a uniquely African panorama to compliment the many photographs you’ll no doubt be taking of animal encounters.  You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch at a hippo pool in the bush and afterwards you’ll have the option of continuing with your safari or visiting a traditional Maasai village visit which is an optional activity at a cost of 20$ per person where you learn about this community who have stuck with their rich culture, or an 0ptional early morning hot air balloon ride over the Mara at a cost of  450$ per person. we highly recommend this, its worth the effort. This must be booked together with the trip to avoid disappointments during the high season when there are a lot of bookings. {Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner}

Day 6: Maasai Mara to Amboseli National Park

After breakfast you’ll hit the road early to travel to breathtaking Amboseli National Park via Nairobi for a brief lunch break at the Carnivore restaurant, famous with meat lovers.  Whilst Amboseli is best known for birds, Elephants and Lions, you could also see Buffalos, Cheetahs, Wildebeests, Zebras, Giraffes and Hyenas, all with majestic Mount Kilimanjaro serving as an impressive backdrop.

Day 7: On safari in Amboseli National Park

Be sure your camera is charged because after breakfast you’ll be enjoying yet another full day of game viewing in Kenya.  You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch in the park and as long as the clouds stay away, you could end the day with a glorious African sunset over Kilimanjaro.

Day 8: Amboseli National Park to Tsavo West National Park

This morning you’ll drive to Tsavo West National Park via the incredible Shetani lava flows,  Formed from a volcanic eruption around 200 years ago, they now form a stark, black blanket covering the terrain. There is also the Mzima springs, a collection of natural springs that host a large population of crocodiles and hippos.  You’ll arrive at Tsavo West in time for lunch before embarking on an evening game drive in one of Kenya’s largest and most beautiful national parks.

Day 9: Tsavo west National Park to Nairobi.

After breakfast there will be another chance for game viewing in this enchanting park, where other notable animal residents include Buffalos, Elephants, Rhinos, Leopards, Lions, Kudus and Giraffes enroute as you are driven back to Nairobi where your trip concludes.

Your African expedition includes…

  • Eight nights accommodation based on two people sharing a room.  Single and multi-occupancy rates are available on request.

  • All meals as follows:  breakfast every day, except the first day, with tea & coffee included; daily lunch, either a picnic lunch or at your accommodation; dinner every night except the final night.  Please note that any additional snacks or beverages should be settled directly with your accommodation provider.

  • A fully trained English-speaking driver/guide with extensive African tour guiding and safari experience.

  • Transport in a specially converted 4×4 safari jeep with a pop-up roof for enhanced game viewing.  Rotational Single seating on either side of an aisle ensures that all guests get an opportunity of a  window seat.

  • All entrance fees to the parks and reserves detailed in the itinerary.

  • Pick up or drop off at Nairobi airport if required.

  • Please note that personal expenses such as laundry costs, telephone calls and beverages are not included along with any additional optional tours and tips.
